Call 1-800-GOT-JUNK? for service, and you almost don't have to do anything else. We hear you out about what kind of junk you need picked up, how much of it there is, and when you'd like us out to your home or office. Give us an idea of what you have that needs hauling, and we can quote you an upfront price. Then, just give us the word, and we can set a time for your DC junk removal appointment.
When our team arrives, which they almost always do right on time, they're in uniform and ready to get started hauling your junk. We gather up what you've got, give you a chance to take a quick look to make sure we're only taking the junk you want to get rid of, and then carry it out to the truck and haul it away.
DC-area businesses and homes generate a lot of junk, which comes in all shapes and sizes. Not everybody has the same kind of junk, but some of the more common items we get called to haul include:
Household trash
Leftover construction waste
Damaged furniture
Old clothes
Auto parts
Damaged or non-functional appliances
Some kinds of waste is on the borderline between normal trash and stuff you can't drop in the weekly curbside bins. 1-800-GOT-JUNK? can handle most of this, especially:
E-waste, such as computers and other electronic equipment
Some household chemicals, such as dried (not wet) paint
Television sets
Hot tubs
Most areas, DC included, have rules about hazardous material that require special handling. If you have anything that's on the borderline between normal trash and more hazardous materials, you can just ask us about the items or substances you're sitting on top of over the phone. You might be surprised at how much of that stuff we can haul away and recycle. If there's anything we can't take for you, we probably know who can take it, and we'll point you in their direction, no problem.
We always dispose of the junk we carry out in the most responsible way possible. Some items, such as undamaged bicycle frames, are good candidates for total rehab, while scrap metal, glass and plastic are usually better off being recycled. We try to divert as much of your junk from the landfill as we can, since we're also DC-area locals, and we want to keep the community as well-taken care of as you do.
If you live anywhere in the Washington, DC, area and have junk to haul, give 1-800-GOT-JUNK? a call for a free, no-obligation consultation over the phone. We are a national company with a very local focus, and we're happy to help you with your DC junk removal any way we can.
Hi, I'm Davinder Sehmi and I own the 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Washington DC East franchise. We have 3 trucks servicing customers in Downtown DC, Capitol Hill, College Park, Landover and Glendale. I got started in the junk removal business after I saw one of those shiny, blue 1-800-GOT-JUNK? trucks on my way home from work one day. The name was so easy to remember and it made such an impression on me that when I got home I searched online for information on the company to see what they were all about - and I was hooked. That was 5 years ago and it was the best decision I have made in my life so far. Now I park my trucks in College Park, where I graduated from the University of Maryland. I was born, raised, and went to school in the DC Metro area and am very proud to own a business in my hometown. The weirdest DC junk we have been asked to remove was a live alligator - weirder still was that one of my drivers took the alligator home as his new pet. If you are moving, doing renovations, have construction debris, or just need to get rid of that old couch and dispose of appliances in Downtown DC please give us a call, we'll help with all your junk removal needs!
Hi, I'm Rick Galliher and I own the local 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Virginia North franchise. As a kid, I would ride my bike across town to the local dump just for fun - years later this job is still a natural fit. My family and I have lived in Fairfax County for 15 years. I started my junk removal business in 2003 with one truck, and have grown to a seven day a week operation, with six trucks, and over 15,000 junk removal jobs to date.
We haul and dispose of household junk, do appliance removal, hot tubs, swing sets and all kinds of furniture removal - from a single couch to multiple truckloads. We tear down sheds too. If you are downsizing or clearing out an estate or completing a trash out of a foreclosure, we can handle that. We also haul junk for commercial clients, residential property managers, office buildings, tear down cubicles, dispose of large copiers and computer equipment, removing retail displays), storage units, and dumpster areas. We recycle what we can, donate good items on a case by case basis, and do our best to keep junk out of local landfills. Right now we keep over 60% of our junk out of the landfills.
Almost half of our work is completed within 24 hours of booking an appointment. Many jobs can be completed on the same day - handy to know if you are closing on your home with junk still in the basement, or your dumpster is overflowing. Estimates are always free - just phone our 24/7 Call Center to schedule an estimate. We always follow up on every job with a phone call to ensure you are happy!
Hi I'm Mark Rubin, and I opened my 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Washington D.C. franchise in 2003. Since launching here over a decade ago, we have grown to 14 trucks and have responsibly removed tons of junk. Aside from jobs at the usual homes and businesses, we have also taken away unwanted items for the federal government, large trade associations and non-profits, politicians, embassies, universities, museums and cultural landmarks. Not only is Washington, DC is full of national treasures there is lots of junk here, too.
I was named "Rookie of the Year" and I have since developed systems to improve the service response time and overall productivity of the junk removal business to make my Washington DC operation one of the top performing franchise partners in the U.S. continuously since 2004.
We are proud to be part of the local community and we often support local schools, communities and charities through in-kind donations, providing clean up services, and sponsoring local events. We also care about the environment and about keeping our local community clean. We sponsor litter clean ups and regularly recycle up to 60% of the items we take away, often donating useable supplies and furniture to service organizations like Habitat for Humanity Restore, Goodwill and A Wider Circle.
I have served on the 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Franchise Advisory Committee, am a member of my local chapter of Entrepreneur's Organization, served as a case study for business students at George Washington University in 2007 and am a frequent guest lecturer at University of Maryland Business School.
Before joining 1-800-GOT-JUNK? I worked overseas as a consultant for Andersen Consulting, then rode the dot-com wave in San Francisco during the height of the internet boom. I returned to my home state of Maryland to open 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Washington D.C. in 2003. I also co-own 1-800-GOT-JUNK? junk removal in Brooklyn and Queens, NY and in Nashville, TN.
Recently, I opened up a You Move Me franchise in Washington & Baltimore. We aim to be your favorite local movers in DC. Because Rick Galliher and his 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Chantilly franchise has a 4,400 square foot warehouse to help sort, recycle and reuse many of the items they pick up, only 8% of what they collect ends up in a landfill. 92% is recycled or donated to charity.
This year, the 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise has been involved with such charities as Sole4Souls, Second Chance Toys, Community Empowerment of Northern Virginia, and Fairfax County Child and Family Services.
Soles4Souls is an international charity that sends new and used shoes around the world, providing microenterprise solutions for people in poverty. The shoes are nominally sold to at-risk single mothers of a local school, who then sell the shoes. In January, Rick will be travelling to Haiti to help distribute the shoes his 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise collected for Soles4Souls.
Second Chance Toys is a New Jersey-based charity with one employee dedicated to reusing good plastic toys and keeping that plastic out of the landfill. This was 1-800-GOT-JUNK?’s first year collecting toys for them. They put Rick in touch with a local charity that needed the toys – Community Empowerment of Northern Virginia – which is a small organization in Sterling that helps low income families.
Not only has Rick been able to give them toys, but he has also given them furniture and household goods. Rick also provided them with $400 in cash to purchase more toys and gifts for kids this holiday season.
Each year Rick’s franchise is blessed to work with Fairfax County Child and Family Services, helping to bring foster kids toys for their Christmas.
In addition, Rick’s franchise gave $1,000 to Long and Foster’s Becky Owen, a Springfield VA Realtor that has bought thousands of toys and supplies for Fairfax County foster kids over the past 17 years.
