Andrew de Boer
Hi, I’m Andrew De Boer, owner of 1-800-GOT-JUNK? in London. Prior to joining the company, I was a business/theatre grad. In school, I learned that “the show must go on” which proved to be invaluable for learning how to creatively run a business and make sure things got done. After school, I helped my father-in-law run a small family business for 12 years. I grew up with an entrepreneurial family, with my grandparents and many aunts & uncles who ran their own businesses, so I always knew I wanted to get into business for myself. I’ve been married for over 25 years and have three adult children (all of whom have worked or work in the business).
What sold me on the idea of joining the 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Family initially was the opportunity to move back to my hometown from north of Toronto where I was living & working at the time. I also really fell in love with their customer service focus, and their values & beliefs really aligned well with my own personal values and beliefs. They have a truly great culture and there’s nothing like the opportunity to get in with a new franchise company at the ground floor and help build it up.
I love owning and running my own business, because it allows me to be in control over my own destiny—if it’s to be, it’s up to me. It has also allowed me to better manage my own work life balance.
Being involved in the community is really important to us as a franchise. I’m currently serving as Chairman of the Board for the Southwest Ontario Better Business Bureau (2020-2022). I’ve also served on several committees at the London Chamber of Commerce, am a member of the Fanshawe College Entrepreneurship Program Advisory Council, and served as a mentor with Futurepreneur & RISE & London Small Business Centre. We’ve had the honour of being named the Winner or Runner Up of the Best Junk Removal Company London Free Press in every year since 2012. We also love participating in the London Santa Claus parade as “Santa’s Clean Up Crew”, where we help clean up garbage from the streets and crowds before Santa arrives.
Outside of work, you can find me spending time with my family, and traveling!
