How to prepare for your lawn mower removal

Most removals require zero preparation, but gas and electric models contain materials that need special handling before we can haul them away.

If you have a gas-powered mower, please ensure the fuel and motor oil are completely emptied before our team arrives. For electric or battery-powered equipment, simply remove the battery pack prior to your appointment.

These small steps allow our professional teams to transport your equipment safely and ensure every component is recycled according to local environmental guidelines. Find a location near you today.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can you come to my home to pick up the mower?

We offer same-day appointments, so we can be there whenever you need us! Book your appointment online to see a list of available appointments in your area.

How much does it cost to have a lawn mower hauled away?

Pricing is based on how much space your items occupy in our trucks—anything from ⅛ to a full truckload. You only pay for the space you use, whether it's one large item or smaller pieces. Old lawn mower disposal costs vary by location due to local disposal fees, but we always offer a competitive price. To get the best value, we suggest getting rid of a few items at the same time.

What options do I have to dispose of my old mower?

If it's working or repairable, you can donate it to charity or sell it online for parts or reuse. If you choose to recycle, electric mowers may be accepted for free through local recycling programs, while gas-powered mowers must be drained of all gasoline and oil before being dropped off at a scrap metal facility or recycling depot. Of course, the easiest way is to let 1-800-GOT-JUNK? take care of it for you! We’ll handle everything, including recycling or donation if possible.

What is the best way to drain the old fuel?

The most effective and safest method for draining old fuel from lawn equipment is to use a siphon pump. This involves placing an approved fuel container lower than the mower's gas tank, inserting the siphon hose, and pumping to start the flow. Always ensure the engine is cool and you've disconnected the spark plug wire for safety, working in a well-ventilated area. After siphoning the bulk of the fuel, run the engine until it stalls to burn off any remaining fuel. Finally, dispose of the sealed container of old gasoline at a Household Hazardous Waste facility.

Where do you take the old mower?

We always do our best to recycle and donate as many items as possible. If your items are still in working condition, they may be donated to local charities who can either resell them or give them to people who need them. Otherwise, we take them to recycling facilities or transfer stations, where they can be broken down so their individual components can be recycled or disposed of responsibly.

Do you take other yard equipment besides lawn mowers?

Yes, we can take all types of lawn equipment, including dethatchers, aerators, snow blowers, pressure washers, and any other power yard equipment.

Don’t just take our word for it

Real customer reviews, typos and all ;)

Markel and Will came out and were amazing! They helped get rid of some hard stuff that we had trouble moving. They were super friendly and very professional and we would love for them to come back and help again when we need to get rid of some more junk in the future.

Antonio and Kevin were great to work with! They came out on a cold snowy evening and were so professional and kind! They were quick and hauled away items from our basement and other yard items. We were calling places to compare prices and they were the most responsive and fair company!

I needed some stuff picked up late on a Friday and 1-800-GOT-JUNK was able to make it happen in less than an hour. Holly showed up and loaded the truck up in no time at all. If you need something picked up with no hassle, give them a call.
