Pulling out your spring or summer clothes can be exciting but it also means you have to put away your winter clothes.
How to declutter your closet for spring

1. Purge your winter clothes
Get rid of the winter clothes that you didn’t wear or you wore too much. Donate the items that are in good repair and throw out the rest. 2. Wash winter away
Give your clothes a good clean. Even if that cable-knit looks spotless it could be harboring dirt or tiny insects that erode fabrics over time. Martha Stewart recommends tying a bunch of chalk together with a rubber band and hanging it in your closet to absorb extra moisture in the air.
3. Prepare for storage.
When you pack clothes away you want to make sure they are in the same condition when you decide to wear them again, so it is crucial to store them properly. Avoid using dry-cleaning bags, they let moisture in and trap it. Heavy-duty garbage bags are actually airtight if you tie them at the top and bottom, but the best option is a garment bag. They’re specifically designed to let your clothing breathe and stay fresh. For extra precaution, throw a few moth repellent cedar balls in, but be sure to avoid traditional mothballs, as they have a strong smell and are full of chemicals.
