Hi, my name is Tom Rypma and I’m the local Franchise owner for 1-800-GOT-JUNK? throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. I started my franchise in November of 2000 after recognizing the need for a professional Junk Removal Service in San Francisco and Marin County. The amounts of junk we were removing surpassed our capacity so I was joined in April of 2001 by business partner and friend Bronic Gold.

We quickly added more trucks and expanded our business to service everyone from Sonoma County, Marin County, San Francisco, San Mateo County, Alameda County and Contra Costa County. Today we operate a fleet of 23 junk trucks and have completed over 75,000 individual junk removal jobs. As part of the local community we decided early on – even before it was vogue – to make environmental responsibility part of our business practice. Since inception we have recycled, donated and salvaged over 20,000 tons of “Junk”.

Hi I’m Bronic Gold, your local franchise owner for 1-800-GOT-JUNK? junk removal in the Bay Area. We opened our franchise on the Peninsula in July of 2000 and have been removing junk across the Silicon Valley ever since.

My wife and I moved to San Mateo from Canada to start our 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise. She had just finished her degree from University of Calgary and I wanted to take a break from selling real estate to start a business. We packed up a U-Haul, drove to California and haven’t looked back. With offices in Sunnyvale and South San Francisco our franchise strives to be the most professional hauling company in the Bay Area.

Our territory has been called many names over the years, from The Peninsula to Silicon Valley. Our territory stretches from San Francisco to San Jose and covers the Peninsula and the coast including Half Moon Bay. We purchased and started a number of contigous franchises in mid-2003 which was early in 1-800-Got-Junk history.  Having a small technical staff who needed additional revenue and growth potential the franchise seemed a good fit for their skill sets and ambitions and negated the need for potential lay-offs.

Coming from an international business model with a lot of travel, the initial staff really liked being closer to home and feeling an immediate return on their efforts.  While local marketing was new for us we were surprised to see the quick response to the different marketing strategies.  Specifically, the opportunity to make a difference in the community and return parts of the profits to local charities was very exciting.  A large amount of time and resources  of our efforts are given to many charitable organizations such as breast cancer, school programs, retirement facilities and many others.  This kind of exposure is priceless and raises self-esteem and moral throughout our organization.

The incredible culture of "disposable assets" present in our society presents an excellent opportunity to restore, recycle and reuse many of the items thrown away by customers.  To the the extent this is possible, such items find new "homes" with people who need them on a charitable basis.

Also, items that do not have the "re-potential" are often disassembled into component materials for use in new production.  Chief among these are electronics, precious metals, glass, steel, plastic, wood, carpet fibers and rubber.  Recapturing these materials save  enormous amounts
