Scott Rutherford, Director, Tech

As Director of Technology, Scott Rutherford is responsible for the ongoing architecture, planning, and development of proprietary business technology systems. He also oversees the Systems Support group which provides back office support for our franchises and corporate headquarters, and the Technical Infrastructure group which maintains telephony and IT requirements of our world-class call center and head office in Vancouver.

Prior to joining 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, Scott developed web-based enterprise business applications in many fields including restaurant/hospitality, market research, automotive, and analytical chemistry. At Vivonet he helped bring the world’s first Internet-based point-of-sale to market for hospitality franchise and chain businesses now marketed by Micros (NASDAQ:MCRS) worldwide. In the late 1990s, as Project Manager for one of Canada’s primary health charity websites, www.lung.ca, he worked with pioneers in online guerilla marketing and SEO. Scott is a Microsoft Certified Professional with the .NET Platform, and has published articles on programming topics such as XML, Windows, .NET, MS Office, and Security.

Scott's experience in waste diversion began at the age of six when he maintained a regular pick-up route in his Saskatoon neighborhood. With a "fleet" of one Radio Flyer wagon, he collected unwanted household recyclables and delivered them to the recycling depot of the not-for-profit company managed by his father. Three decades after his initial venture in waste diversion, Scott joined 1-800-GOT-JUNK? in 2007 to again play a part in promoting the 3 Rs of responsible environmental stewardship.

“1. Every employee I’ve dealt with was VERY courteous! 2. Got Junk is clear about what they will and will not take, so no surprises on the day of the pick-up. 3. They are clear about the pricing, so no surprises on the day of the pick-up. 4. They keep you updated on the pick-up time on the day of the pick-up. 5. They clean up the area where the junk was even though it was not junk related. 6. They’ll recycle what ever was recyclable! 7. They took ALL my junk!”
