Hi, my name is Laurie Anthony Baggio and I, along with my wife Chantel and three kids, Caius, Ava, and Marcus, own 1-800-GOT-JUNK?'s junk hauling operation in Portland. We have been in business for five years. Our franchise serves all of Washington County, most of Clackamas County and about half of Multnomah County. We initially launched in Tigard, then moved to Sylvan Heights for a couple of years until we settled here on SW Barbur Blvd.
Since starting our junk removal company in 2003 we have helped over 10,000 customers remove their junk and rubbish and get their space back. We are confident that our business will continue to grow as people find out that there is a good alternative to renting a drop box or borrowing a truck and doing the work themselves. We think the best thing about this business is the reaction of customers at the end of each junk removal. They are generally surprised at how easy and fast the whole process is. They like knowing that not everything is going to the landfill. We'll recycle as much as we can, or if the junk is still usable, there's a good chance we'll donate it to charity. Having a nice clean space, whether it’s a garage, basement or extra bedroom, is the best part. There are many times that the customers are relieved because the clean up is something that they had put off for months.
I have been a part of 1-800-GOT-JUNK? since 2001, originally working as the VP, Franchise Development, and later, Strategy, for the company. While watching many 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise owners become successful, I decided to acquire Portland in June of 2003. My first general manager, Tom Maryschak, who lived in Beaverton, ended up joining the corporate office and now owns his own 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise. Today, Mark Papenfuhs is the general manager for 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Portland. "Getting into the junk hauling business was never really part of my plan, but the more I found out about it, the better I liked it. I took over running the Portland franchise in October of 2005. Since then, we have more than doubled the revenue from our junk removals. We have added three more 1-800-GOT-JUNK? junk hauling trucks and are now up to seven."
Our office is located at 9442 SW Barbur Blvd., Portland 97219. That's just a few miles southwest of downtown Portland and just outside of Tigard near the Metro Transit Center. Barbur Blvd. is also known as Hwy 99 West.

"We have recommended your trash removal services to several people. The trash removal team that helped us was outstanding. We are very satisfied customers!"-- Sue, Portland, Oct. 2007
"We hired 1-800-GOT-JUNK? to clean up five acres of vacant land in Portland. Robert's work was detailed and extremely thorough. He did an outstanding job of trash removal, exceeding expectations while keeping to the agreed upon price. We cannot recommend Robert and 1-800-GOT-JUNK?'s trash hauling services highly enough. We will never use anyone else to perform this type of work for us."-- Leslie, Office Manager
"I wanted to let you know how impressed I was with your junk removal service. The online booking was painless. Your two junk haulers were on-task, professional and very pleasant. I really appreciated the caliber of service."-- Jeanne, Portland, March 2007
"I can't believe it! That was as easy as anything I have ever done. I called and on the same day your junk removal team came to my house, hauled away that old couch, and even swept the driveway. The best part? I wasn't even home. I did all the payment over the phone. True convenience!"-- Josh, Portland, Jan. 2008
"Simon and Theo hauled away my junk. They were courteous and very helpful. As long as your company keeps up that level of service, you should have a great business. Thanks."-- Joyce, Beaverton, Sept. 2007
"We were in a crunch. The house needed to get listed, but that last pile of junk kept getting bigger. Everything came down to the last minute and we ran out of time. We saw your junk removal crew waving on the side of the road with blue wigs on. It was as if our prayers were answered. Your junk haulers said they would come directly to our place and they did just that. Thanks again, blue team!"-- Lisa, Springfield, Jan. 2008
"Just wanted to thank you for the great junk removal service today. Your price was only slightly more than I would have paid to rent a dumpster. Having your rubbish removal crew do the clean up for my remodeling job has bought me a weekend of time. I was very impressed that you were able to accommodate me same-day."-- Adam, Beaverton, Nov. 2007
"Wow, not only did they get the junk out of my place, they moved all the furniture just how I wanted it to be. They took the time to sort the junk so it would be easier to recycle. What a great company."-- Randi, Portland, March 2008
In the summer of 2002, Tom Maryschak began working as the general manager of the 1-800-GOT-JUNK?'s junk removal operations in Portland. Read this article written by Portland's Daily Journal of Commerce that describes how Maryschak and his team of junk haulers use grass-root marketing techniques to spread the work about their junk removal services. The goal is to remind people they have junk, and let them know that we can help them with their junk removal needs.
Last spring, Portland's 1-800-GOT-JUNK? team received a call from a gentleman looking to have a basement clean out. Upon arrival, our junk removers were a bit surprised to find his entire basement filled with canned and dried foods. Apparently he had just closed the doors on a supermarket that he had owned. We didn't want to see all that food go to waste so we started making calls. In just a few calls we had a taker. The Oregon Food Bank received over six tons of non-perishable food products. The customer was thrilled and the Food Bank was extremely happy.
Here in Portland we love to celebrate the holidays. To show our Christmas cheer, we entered the West Linn Holiday Parade. We decorated our junk removal truck and handed out plenty of candy to the kids.
This year, we sponsored the Portland Air Show featuring the Blue Angels. Not only did we have front row seats for a great show, our junk removal crew also handed out hundreds of toy junk trucks to the kids.
The 2007 tornado strike in Vancouver, Washington hit the Vancouver Lake Crew especially hard. A group of rowing athletes lost everything the club owned, including all of their boats and the two mobile homes they used as offices and changing rooms. The tornado also went through a residential neighborhood and left numerous homes, buildings and trees damaged. Our junk removal team watched as the community started to clean up the debris and we decided to head out to the site and volunteer our clean up services. There must have been a couple hundred volunteers as we brought our debris removal expertise to the site. We were able to get recyclers involved and were able to cut the amount of landfill waste in half, maybe more. It was a great day with good people.
In December 2007, 1-800-GOT-JUNK? was able to volunteer with one of the biggest of all bicycling events of the year, the US Grand Prix put on by Crank Brothers, Toyota and Cliff Bar. Cliff Bar made the goal of having zero waste events. Eco Cycle, a company working to build zero waste communities, came in to organize the recycling effort. The Colorado-based Eco Cycle needed logistical support and 1-800-GOT-JUNK? jumped at the opportunity to work on such a great project. We were able to recycle 770 pounds of cardboard, plastic, paper and wood and 340 pounds of compost, leaving just 280 pounds of waste for the landfills. That was all the waste left from two thousand bike racers and three thousand spectators! With Eco Cycle's great zero waste kits and the knowledge of local recycling that we at 1-800-GOT-JUNK? had, we were able to have a very successful event.
1-800-GOT-JUNK? once again teamed up with the Boy Scouts Troop 465 to help raise funds for their annual Christmas tree recycling program. Last year, we were able to set aside sixteen hours of junk truck time to help this cause. This is the only fundraising this troop does and we were happy to volunteer for the third consecutive year. The scouts raised $4,500 in two days, which was above their 700 tree estimate. We hope all the kids have a great time this summer at camp.
