Hello, I am Andrew Wilson, the first Franchise Partner for 1-800-GOT-JUNK? in the Kansas City area.
In 2002, while serving with the 82nd Airborne Division as an Infantry Platoon Leader on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan, I read a Fortune 500 magazine article about 1-800-GOT-JUNK? and how they were looking for Franchise Partners in my hometown of Kansas City. Shorty after returning back to the States, I moved my wife and children to Olathe where we opened our junk hauling doors for business. Since that time, our junk removal business has grown out of our home office in Olathe and relocated to Kansas City, Kansas.
We now have a warehouse and yard space which gives us the opportunity to sort our junk
for recycling and donating purposes. We pride ourselves in finding alternative methods of disposing of over 60% of the
junk we haul away. We have created partnerships with Benilde Hall, Safe Home, Goodwill, various churches and other
charities who are in need of furniture, clothing and appliances.
You will also see our 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Clean and Shiny Trucks and Friendly, Uniformed Drivers engaged in many unique marketing activities including wearing blue wigs, waving to the people of Kansas City, building a snowman on snowy days, and participating in both the St. Patrick's Day Parade in downtown Kansas City and Old Settler's Day Parade in Olathe. We are a young, fun-loving company looking to do all we can to be good citizens of Kansas City. Owning a 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise has given me the opportunity to become very active in several professional organizations throughout Johnson County and Kansas City. We are members of the Olathe Chamber of Commerce, Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, The Kansas City Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, the Better Business Bureau, and The Johnson County Chapter of Women's Council of Realtors where I served on the board in 2006.
We have also been able to take part in many community events and fundraising opportunities. We are proud to be one of the founding sponsors for the Patriots' Run held every September 11 at Two Trails Park in Olathe. It is the only 9 hour and 11 minute ultra-marathon of its kind held to remember and honor those who serve our great nation. In 2007, I had the honor to volunteer once again to serve our country in the War on Terror. I was deployed to Ramadi, Iraq and served as the Civil Affairs Officer for Task Force 2-5 Marines. Our unit played an integral role in the historic Sunni Awakening, a turning point in the war in Iraq. We also were able to hold our own Patriots' Run event in Ramadi alongside the run in Olathe. Our 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise would like to thank the 7,000+ customers in the Kansas City area who have hired us to remove over 5,000 tons of junk from their homes and businesses. We look forward to helping the next 7,000+ customers looking for an environmentally friendly way to get rid of their "JUNK"!!

Many usable items taken from jobs that are needed in the community are made available to charities through our efforts. We are always donating furniture and clothing to organizations like the Disabled Vets, Salvation Army, and Goodwill. It's a great feeling knowing that we have given back to the community. Our customers feel much better knowing someone may use what they no longer need. Last year alone just one of our 1-800-GOT-JUNK? trucks donated approximately 300 cubic yards of furniture and clothing, and recycled over 350 yards of metal. Hi, I'm Tyler Staszak, the owner of Kansas City South's 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise. My journey in the junk hauling business began almost a year ago. Working as a software engineer in San Francisco, CA I was tired of the daily office cubical grind so I decided to move closer to family in Kansas City and start my own business. When my wife's friend suggested 1-800-GOT-JUNK? I did some research and now I'm head over heels for junk! You can often see our 1-800-GOT-JUNK? trucks roaming the streets of Kansas City, Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, Independence, Raytown, Grandview, and Belton just to name a few! With the junk that we pick up we always try hard to recycle and donate as much as possible. We take a lot of items to Kansas City Union Mission on 77th & Wornall in Kansas City, MO.
Needless to say, my day to day activities are very different than a year ago. Now you might see me wearing a blue wig and waving at cars as they drive the 50 Hwy through Raytown. Or, you might bump into me attending a BNI networking meeting in Lee's Summit. Getting into this junk removal business, I never thought junk could be so addictive! It's a lot of hard work but seeing the relief on our customers' faces makes it all worth while. We are two blocks est of the 291/470N junction with Woods Chapel Road.

Pro Junk Removal Comes to Kansas City
Andrew Wilson opened up 1-800-GOT-JUNK? in May 2003, providing full-service junk removal to the Kansas City metro area (including Kansas City, Independence, Olathe and Overland Park). Now you've got a way to haul away your trash and get rid of junk like old household appliances or office furniture.
Patriots' Run Started by 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Trash Removers
Sept. 11 inspired the 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Kansas City franchise owner to start up the annual Patriots' Run. It's held on Sept. 11 at Olathe's Two Trails Park, lasting from noon until 9:11PM. Funds raised from this event go to the Olathe Salvation Army.
Benefitting Kansas Charities
Some of the junk our customers want us to remove include microwaves, beds, recliners, and chairs. For charities (like Salvation Army), churches, or nonprofits, this means getting nice stuff for free. 1-800-GOT-JUNK? recycles or donates up to 60% of its junk pickups to local charities. One example is Benilde Hall, a substance-abuse treatment center in Kansas City.

See us in the St. Patty's Day Parade
St. Patrick's Day Parade, Downtown Kansas City. 2008 will be our 3rd year to participate in the 35th Annual Kansas City St. Patrick's Day Parade. This year should be our biggest parade yet, 10 trucks, and at least 20 people celebrating St. Patricks Day, as well as 1-800-GOT-JUNK?
Always Ready for a Good Challenge
We have a staff full of athletes, 95% of our employees have played college or professional sports. Having that many atheletes in one building makes for an interesting culture. With so much competition on a daily bases, physical challenges our bound to happen. For example: 4 times a month all the staff gather at the bottom of the hill for our annual "who's fastest" competition. With bragging rights on the line this intense 75 yard race always comes down to a "photo finish", in which the Operations Manager and former all-conference wide receiver at local Mid-America Nazarene University is crowned victorious.
On Parade in Gladfest at Gladstone
Gladstone, Missouri is a prominent community in the heart of Brian O'Neil's franchise territory. Every Autumn the community hosts Gladfest, an anticipated street festival with live entertainment, good food and more than 20 years of tradition. The event draws huge crowds in the tens of thousands. Among the popular festival attractions is the Gladfest parade. Perhaps, you've seen us there; we've participated in the parade every year since opening our business. We always have a good time and children and adults are entertained by our famously blue and green 1-800-GOT-JUNK? trucks.
Our Cheesiest Haul Ever: 8,000 lbs
Kansas City North's 1-800-GOT-JUNK truck team were taken back when they showed up on a job that was anything but normal! They removed 8,000lbs of cheese! 20+ years ago the customer had planned on using the cheese to make catfish bait. That never happened, and 20 years later, the cheese was all ours!
We Support Kansas City Royals
It just so happens that blue is also the color of our Kansas City Royals baseball team. Every year all our 1-800-GOT-JUNK? employees attend a Kansas City Royals game and wear our big blue wigs and act a little crazy. Every year, without fail, we are "fans of the game" because of enthusiasm and our crazy blue wigs.
