My name is Cameron Lansdell. My wife is a Doctoral student at UF. We have both fallen in love with Florida and Gainesville in particular. The weather and outdoor recreational opportunities are amazing.
It felt like kismet when, in late 2008, I discovered that the Gainesville 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise was for sale. I’ve admired the company for years. It’s such a great business model that matches my enjoyment of entrepreneurship with my love of “bringing order where there once was chaos.” Clients love us because we charge by volume and we’ll go and get the junk from wherever it is – attic, backyard, upstairs bedroom, deck – for no extra charge no matter how much extra time it takes. We also genuinely help people by de-cluttering their lives and giving them their space back. Our service is the cheapest way to reclaim extra square footage without the need for a costly renovation/expansion!
At the same time the 1-800-GOT-JUNK? business model incentivizes recycling/donation. It saves us money to divert all we can from the dump. We donate all we can to Tot Spot, Haven Hospice, Interfaith Hospitality, The Dignity Project, Peaceful Paths, SPCA, Salvation Army, Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity and various ministries. We recycle all we can: cardboard, paper, metal, bottles and cans, plastic bags, cement, ewaste, green waste and even packing peanuts.
