Hi, I’m Alan Klug and I was the first franchise partner to open the Baltimore market in April of 2003. I was the fourth 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise to open on the East Coast. I’ve personally been to hundreds of junk removal jobs from Towson to Federal Hill, Gibson Island to Woodstock in Howarc County and of course Baltimore city, Columbia, Ellicott City and everywhere in between.
Prior to opening 1-800-GOT-JUNK? I was a management consultant for KPMG and BearingPoint. Opening my junk removal business was a means to stay local in my beloved hometown of Baltimore and get involved with the local business community. I wanted a business where I could really solve a problem for our customers and provide outstanding service in a unique industry – I can safely say I found what I was looking for!
You’ve probably seen our junk removal trucks parked at the Charles Street Roundabout, we had to relocate over to Rehak’s Lutherville Car Care center on York Road while the construction is going on but we still keep that extra truck up there to serve the I-83 corridor better.
We also love to recycle – we have recycled hundreds of tons of metal, paper and electronics this year. We recently started collecting used and damaged clothing for recycling too. We are always looking for new places to recycle or donate things. The Loading Dock in East Baltimore is one of our favorites due to the fact that we get lots of building scrap. When I’m not working with my junk team or playing with my three sons I can usually be found running around the streets of Baltimore from Loch Raven Reservoir to the NCR trail or the Stony Run Trail to name some of my favorites. I’ve participated in the last three Baltimore Running Festivals and will be running the Under Armour Marathon again in 2009! Our local office also supports the Survivor Harbor 7 Race held in around the inner harbor every June.

Hi, I’m Cris Ellis and I own 1-800-GOT-JUNK?'s junk hauling operations in Annapolis. We opened our doors for business in November 2003 with one 1-800-GOT-JUNK? truck. We have grown to five junk removal trucks serving PG County, Anne Arundel County, St. Charles County, St. Mary’s County, and Calvert County.
Previously, I was a successful Account Executive in the Trade Show industry. I became interested in 1-800-GOT-JUNK? after reading an article featuring the owners of the DC 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise and their junk removal business. I immediately shared the article with my wife, and she agreed that this was the opportunity we had been waiting for.
Over the years, our junk hauling team has found tremendous satisfaction in meeting our commercial and residential client’s needs in conducting foreclosure cleanouts, real estate property cleanouts, household cleaning projects, post yard sale hauling, construction debris cleanups, garage cleanouts and breakdowns, senior apartment cleanouts, and many more junk and trash removal services! Because we do all the moving and loading, we have been able to assist many ill, senior, or infirmed clients with items that were much too heavy for them to lift. How regarding! Our clients also rest easy knowing that we are insured.
Today, it is vital that we support and help to protect the environment. We contribute to this effort by utilizing the dumping landfills and other recycling organizations in our area to recycle as much as possible. We also donate items that are acceptable to charity organizations in our area for the same purpose.
In response to our junk removal service, clients have expressed their gratitude for our professionalism, honesty, and friendly demeanor; and we really do appreciate that. Looking forward, we will continue to strive to serve our community in every way possible.

Turning Maryland Trash Into Cash
American excess - a.k.a. the "Pack Rat Syndrome" - means increased profits for storage companies as well as trash haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK?. A couple of entrepreneurs are cashing in on the junk tucked away in the garages, attics, houses, apartments, offices, and retail stores of Maryland. "There a demand for junk removal for sure," says Jatinder Sehmi, who owns a junk hauling franchise based in Rockville, MD. Most of Maryland's junk removal operators are among the most successful franchisees.

Loyola College Grad Thrives in Junk Business
Loyola College graduate Alan Klug has found his niche in the junk business. "We're the FedEx of junk removal," he boasts. He does every type of junk removal - from hauling away old furniture (like sofas), TVs, and clothes, to wholesale property clean ups. What happens to the junk he picks up through his junk removals? Normally the trash gets taken to the landfill, but Klug keeps costs down by recycling or donating as much of the "junk" as he can.

Starbucks Entertainment
Kent Warren, an employee of the Baltimore 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise for three years, leads a double life. Kent is a member of the popular regional band Fools and Horses that is on the verge of breaking into the national scene. Kent has been featured in the Baltimore Sun's At Work series due to his unique role as a junk removal crewman Monday through Wednesday and a rock star Thursday through Sunday. Kent is loved by customers and his fellow junk haulers alike. His band recently won a competition with Starbucks Entertainment (the coffee company's record label) and were featured on an album entitled Off the Clock that they produced in 2007 with a song each from bands that have at least one Starbucks employee. Steve Herrerra, a Baltimore junk remover who also works at Starbucks part-time, was the way in. They went on to win the competition by being voted as the best song on the album and will have another track featured on an upcoming Starbucks entertainment release.

The Baltimore 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise is a leading supporter of Project Red Dot as a collector of laptop computers for refugee camps in Africa. Our junk hauling team is 100% behind the effort and it gives us a unique effort to rally around that serves a greater good than just being the best in the junk removal industry. We all love telling our junk removal customers about this exciting project and giving them a chance to help with it. We do not have to ask for money and that is one of the greatest parts of the project. We also promise to provide feedback in the form of a photo of the customer's donation in use.
